"Final Set" retain their Dan Maskell Tennis Trust Golf Day title!
A marvellous day to celebrate the 21st staging of the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust Celebrity Golf Challenge was held at Ashridge Golf Club, near Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire at the beginning of May with £17,000 the total raised.
A record 20 teams entered, including 7 teams of members from the Club. John Livock's "Final Set" won for the second time - John as Captain, Paul Sexton and Nigel Lewis were joined by former British No. 3 tennis player and Sky Sports analyst Barry Cowan. They scored 103 points in the Stableford competition.
After last year's deluge, the weather gave everyone a fabulous day and the splendours of the course were shown off at their best, not least including the bluebells which feature all over the Ashridge Estate.
The Trust's President Elaine Paige was in fine form at the after-golf receptions, as was another Sky Sports presenter, Marcus Buckland, who conducted the auction in his imitable style, helped by a guest appearance from the US President Donald Trump (aka Jonathan Whaley!).
A special award was presented to Tony Daltrey of Task Systems who has supported the Golf Day in all of its 21 year history and single-handedly kept the Day going through a couple of lean years. Tony entered 5 teams this year! What amazing support. Task 4 – led by Garry Hilditch came 3rd with 98 points.
The final total raised was £17,000 - all of the proceeds will go into the Trust's grant aid programme to support disabled tennis players.
