This funding will allow us to continue to scale up our grant aid funding programme. Last year we broke our past records, funding over £100k to disability tennis groups and individuals.

The Wimbledon Foundation donates more than £4 million a year to local, national and international charities to support projects which strengthen the local community, inspire the next generation through sport, build healthy communities and respond in times of need. This year’s chosen charities are Dan Maskell Tennis Trust, AFC Wimbledon Foundation, Disability Sports Trust and the Junction Elite Project.

We at the Dan Maskell Tennis Trust were delighted to be included and nominated the wonderful Lydia Lowe to represent us. Lydia  (age 8) will perform the coin toss at the Ladies’ Wheelchair Singles Final on No.1 Court on Saturday 12 July. Lydia suffered a brain injury in January 2024 leaving her visually impaired and having to learn to walk, talk and eat again. We supported her through our grant aid funding to purchase VI Tennis balls and have individual coaching lessons.

The Trust is also delighted to learn that our Vice-President Virginia Wade has received a CBE. Virginia is a three-time Grand Slam singles champion and former British No.1 and received her CBE for services to tennis and charity.

Lilas was 93 when she died peacefully at home on May 25^th. Lilas was a Trustee of DMTT since it became an independent charity in 2010 and became a Vice-President when she retired from the Board three years ago.     

Lilas has been an incredibly generous benefactor to DMTT, and her wonderful donations have helped many disabled people to play tennis. We will miss her enormously and send our heartfelt condolences to her family.

Before DMTT was formed, Lilas was a very active LTA Councillor representing Cambridgeshire and was on several Committees.   She was also a member of the East Region working with John Tucker and Sir Geoffrey Cass.   She was always interested in the development of tennis and served on various LTA Boards and Committees, including National Development, Coaching & Schools; National Tennis Development; Schools & Higher Education of which she served a term as Chairman; plus, the LTA Trust and the British Schools LTA. Following her retirement from the LTA Council, Lilas was made an Honorary Life Councillor.

A fond memory of Lilas helping DMTT’s fundraising at pre-Wimbledon Tournaments was her enthusiasm and determination to speak to as many people as possible persuading them to buy raffle tickets!

From all of us associated with DMTT, thank you, Lilas, for all your magnificent support, your enduring friendship and your incredible generosity. May you rest in peace.

Camps that have already taken place:

2025 Visually Impaired and Blind coaching camp:

Saturday 1 March the Visually Impaired camp will be held for players in sight category B2- B5, starting at midday and finishing at 6pm. On Sunday 2 March the Blind tennis camp, for players in sight category B1 will be held from 10am until 4pm.

Both camps will be held at Graves Health and Sport Centre in Sheffield –  Bochum Parkway, Jordanthorpe, Sheffield S8 8JR. The local blind society is providing a minibus to transport players to/from the train station if required.

The amazing coaching line up is already confirmed as Louise Assioun and Ben Howarth!

The courts are indoor so guaranteed to go ahead, regardless of weather.
